Mima came to visit! Within minutes of walking through the door, Samuel and Elsie were bringing her books to read.
Taco Tuesday!
On Sunday we toured downtown Detroit. This is one of the many historic buildings in the area.
Cheese!

Exploring the University of Michigan campus together
My mom's birthday is in August, but we decided to celebrate early with breakfast at Cafe Zola. I ordered something savory . . .
And she ordered something sweet!

Signs of summer
The downtown library in Ann Arbor is one of our family's favorite destinations, so of course we needed to take Mima on a fieldtrip to see everything! Samuel and Elsie made sure to show her the fish, the doll house, the puzzles, the grocery store, and the trucks!
Getting in the frame... and also wearing my new sunhat from Ten Thousand Villages. :)
Samuel's first trip to the dentist! He was a rockstar!
Exploring new parks
Big smiles at the famous Zingerman's Deli
One evening we went to the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum. The babies are the perfect age to enjoy the toddler room.
The firetruck was a big hit!
Samuel was so excited he kept moving from one toy to the next while Elsie mostly played with the LEGO.
Party in Mima's bedroom!
Wednesday at the Farmer's Market, which is just a few blocks from our apartment
In the back of our apartment there is a patio and a small yard. Unfortunately, the yard is mostly a bathroom for all of the dogs in the building, so it's not an option for the kids to run in the grass. However, the patio is a great place for them to color with chalk. I think we've drawn miles of "choo-choo" tracks this summer.

Unstoppable Elsie turned ONE this week! Here she is happily helping us with some party prep.
On the 16th, the morning of her birthday, we decided to keep up the pan"cake" breakfast tradition (started here) and celebrate with a candle.
We didn't plan to do very much on Elsie's birthday because Brent was scheduled to work. However, when the project was canceled due to weather, we took advantage of the opportunity and took my mom to the Henry Ford Museum complex in Dearborn. (We went to the Greenfield Village portion.) It's worth a post of it's own, but I wanted to include our family highlight: the steam locomotive! We all loved taking a ride around the village, enjoying the breeze on such a muggy day, and listening to the clickety-clack and the "choo-choo" of the whistle. One little passenger cried when he had to get off, but was all smiles again when he was able to pose with the engine.
Our Family
Then we all came home and had a little birthday party for our baby. Her favorite part was when we sang "Happy Birthday" and clapped for her. She liked the cake, too. ;-)
