Here and Now: Week 39

Here's what we did in our everyday lives this week:


We discovered the Tobacco Heritage Nature Trail!


The trail was once a railroad bed that hauled tobacco from the farms to the markets in the cities. The maintained trail is one mile down and one mile back. Pretty much the perfect length. It's at the other end of town, so we have to drive to it, but maybe when I'm not so pregnant we can walk all the way from our house and then back.


Although it's still warm out, there are shady patches that make it pleasant.


At the end of the trail there is a bridge that spans Coleman Creek.


Samuel found a good walking stick along the way.


We can't wait to go back! I see a lot more walks on the "nature trail" in our future.

Getting a little "Baby Sign Time" in while I try to do some projects.


We love being so close to Daddy's work! Three miles door-to-door makes a quick visit possible.

We made good work of our Summer Bucket List


Mackenzie hosted a little Abu Dhabi reunion. (She also had a broken foot!) What a treat to see her, the kiddos, and Tracey too!

Here and Now: Week 38

Here’s what we did in our everyday lives his week:


We kept the camping gear out after the hurricane and decided to add the tent to the mix.


Samuel fell, hit the bookshelf, and got a fat lip. OWWW!


Auntie Amanda came to visit! We made a little day trip down to Hope Reins, in Raleigh for an event. It was fun to be around horses again and an absolute treasure to be around Amanda. The gift of friends and your shared history with those friends is truly priceless.


We gave her the full Boydton tour and made sure we were able to spend some time playing at the cabin.

Here and Now: Week 37

Here’s what we did in our everyday lives this week:


We finished our weekend at the beach with a Sunday morning trip to the aquarium.

The price I pay to have an uninterrupted phone call. It was worth it!

Back from a stop at the library and a little stop at the store; we loaded up on books and on glow sticks before the hurricane comes.

And in the end, Hurricane Florence blew around us! (I used a star to show our location.) We were spared being in the direct pathway. Three cheers for less rain (hoorah!), less wind (hoorah!), and less damage (hoorah!) then we anticipated. We did have tornado sightings in our area, but no one was hurt. Thank you, God! Now our challenge is to put our prayers, hearts, efforts, and pocketbooks into helping those who are impacted.


Last week I called him a super big boy. This week he’s a mini construction worker.

Here’s what we did this week...

Hello from Virginia Beach! It was windy, rainy, and we had some rough waves, but it was still fun.

Haven’t been the best at documenting this pregnancy, so here’s a selfie for the baby book.

We knew it was time to call it a day when this little nugget was knocked down by the waves and tumbled about under the water. She had her life vest on, but it was still scary. Eek!

Here and Now: Week 35

Here’s what we did in our everyday lives this week:

Our friends generously offered to take us out on the lake in their boat. We had such a fun time! The kids loved being in the water, especially Elsie. I think getting to watch them enjoy new experiences is one of the best parts of being a parent.
